27 – Amazing Grace

What if some of your deepest growth is happening where you cannot yet see it?

There are times when we desperately want to change but feel stuck, emotionally dry or frustrated by our apparent lack of progress. We may try harder, think harder, search for answers and judge ourselves for not becoming the person we believe we should already be.

Amazing Grace invites us to loosen that grip.

Grace is not passivity, nor does it mean waiting for God to do for us what we can do for ourselves. There is a beautiful partnership between participation and receiving. We can seek truth, feel, pray, reflect, take responsibility and make loving choices — while remaining open to receiving the Love, guidance and support we could never manufacture through effort alone.

The French Blue Hydrangea emerged amongst fallen branches and forest debris beside a flowing creek and magnificent tall trees. Around it, water continually moved while the rocks and trees remained grounded. When fierce winds and storms came, the trees stood firm because their strength extended far beneath what could be seen.

Sometimes our growth may be like that too. We look above ground for evidence that we are changing while something essential is developing quietly beneath the surface — deeper roots in Love, Truth and God’s Laws.

Grace does not necessarily remove life’s storms. Circumstances can change, things we cherish may be lost and powerful emotions can move through us. Strength is not found in becoming immovable or unaffected, but in developing a foundation that allows us to experience movement without losing ourselves within it.

Amazing Grace invites us to participate wholeheartedly without believing we must control every aspect of our transformation. When the soul feels dry, we do not have to squeeze Love out of ourselves. We can create space, become receptive and allow ourselves to receive what is already being offered.
