10 – Shame

What if something you did, experienced or were told about yourself became the belief that there is something fundamentally wrong with you?

Shame can turn an experience, mistake or rejection into a conclusion about our entire identity. I did something wrong becomes I am wrong. We may hide, strive for perfection, fear mistakes, reject love or stop taking risks because being seen feels dangerous and failure seems to confirm our deepest fears about ourselves.

Shame invites you to gently uncover these conclusions rather than continuing to live beneath them. Like the Sea Hibiscus changing from luminous yellow through increasingly deeper shades of red, shame can gradually colour how we perceive ourselves until we struggle to remember the person underneath it.

This essence encourages compassion without avoidance and truth without self-condemnation. Healing shame does not require pretending we have never made mistakes or caused harm. It asks us to separate our inherent worth from our behaviour so that we can honestly feel, learn, take responsibility where needed and make different choices.

You are more than the worst conclusion you have ever drawn about yourself.
