Coastal Pigface (Carpobrotus glaucescens)

Keyword – Champion

Are you surviving so that you can live — or has surviving become the way you live?

Experiences of instability, trauma or fear can teach us to organise life around survival. We may become vigilant, cautious and highly resourceful, continually working to hold everything together while avoiding anything that might bring uncertainty, pain or loss.

Survival invites you to recognise both the strength and the limitation of these adaptations. Like Coastal Pigface binding shifting sand against wind, salt and erosion, our survival strategies may have helped stabilise us through difficult circumstances. But what once protected us can eventually restrict our capacity to explore, trust, desire and fully engage with life.

This essence encourages you to become curious about what fear may be costing you. Avoiding pain can also mean avoiding vulnerability, opportunity, intimacy, passion and joy. Moving beyond survival does not mean becoming reckless or abandoning practical responsibility. It means developing enough inner stability, faith and courage that fear no longer makes every decision.

A true champion is not someone who never feels afraid, but someone increasingly willing to feel, learn, adapt and live.

Invitation: This essence invites you to explore where survival strategies may still be governing your choices, what they once protected you from, and whether you are ready to build genuine inner safety while allowing yourself to participate more fully in life.
